Daily Sketch: Helios Redesign

Don’t worry, or do worry if you like this look. I’m not changing Helios in the comic. His design’s completely final. I just felt like making up a new one very spontaneously.
I kind of went back to when I was originally designing the character. One design had a cape, but capes were strictly taboo. WELL, SINCE THIS IS NOTHING OFFICIAL, I can have him naked if I want. Don’t worry, I’m not going to do that.

Anyway, going to try daily sketchings. I might totally stop for any number of reasons, though, cause I suck at consistency with stuff like that. Not saying I don’t sketch every day, it’s just not always stuff I wanna show.

Rebranding Heroic

We’ve been thinking, and we’ve decided that Heroic appeals too much to men. This is the first concept sketch to make sure that it’s more female friendly. I know it’s not that good, but meh, I was using calligraphy pen on typing paper. Cut me some slack.

Awakening Cover WIP

So I started on this last night as a bit of a surprise for Nux. So when I show it to him, he’s unsure. The first issue we’re working on is divided into three parts that could be issues all on their own. It’s pretty crazy, but he comes up with the idea that I should make this into a triptych.

So now I’ve gotta line up three boards side to side and figure out how to work this into a three page long layout, but it should be fun. Anyway, I’ll only show stuff from the first part for now, : )

Roachs, Redesigns, and Commission, Oh my!

So, yes. Perhaps I’ll do some art bloggery here too. After all, you ladies (and gents) can check out my portfolio without all the little stuff in between, anyway, right? right. Good. Let’s start.

These next two pics were inspired by my friend, Beezebeora.

roachwood

Behold, Mr. Thaddeus H. Roachwood. I hate to admit this, but his surname is sadly, not an intended pun. I wasn’t THAT clever. Sorry. But somehow, I think that makes this more humorous.

Anyway, I don’t normally work on stuff quite so flat, so this was a bit of a challenge for me. I’m still happy with it, for the most part. I think I would like to try something like this again in the future.

This is one of Beeze’s old fan characters. I some how sent her down nostalgia lane. Something I like doing is redesigning and tweaking characters and fan characters in an attempt to make them look more “SEGAy”. It’s always a fun design exercise, I think. Trying to get a new look out of something without necessarily destroying the look it had before.

Valeon

This is a sketch commission I did for RachBurns over at deviantart of her fan character, Valeon.I kind of did some tweaking here and there. I asked permission first, so it was good : )

Anyway, that is all. Characters belong to their respective owners and what not.

The Wind Rises deviantART Contest

So, if you’re a member of deviantART, you may have noticed that there’s a contest based around The Wind Rises going on right now. I’ve decided I’m going to enter the darned thing. I haven’t entered a proper contest in YEARS, so I guess it’s time I stopped putting it off. Normally, part of the reason why I never take an interest in DA contests is because the subject of focus doesn’t interest me, or I just haven’t been to the site in a while.

I highly doubt I’ll win, but if I do, yay. Very yay. Anyway, here’s a sketch I’ve done for it. There will be more added as I continue to work on it.

Now I’m aware that this isn’t in the same style that’s in the movie or that Miyazaki-san is known for. I’m not sure if that’s going to work against me, but this is how I wanted to do it. (Though trying out Miyazaki-san’s style was VERY tempting.)

Aside from doing this in my style, I based the face off of a picture of Horikoshi Jiro, rather than the images I saw in the show. Well, I kept the hair.

Anyway, enough rambling. I need to finish lining and coloring this soon if I’m going to be able to work on the rest and have it done by the deadline. : )
